Getting Started at Avenues Drug and Alcohol Treatment

From day one, we are with you every step of the way.

The Avenues admission process identifies an alcohol and drug treatment plan for each individual. Every person looking for help with addiction rehab is unique. The work begins with the very first call. Our trained specialists know what to look for and which questions to ask. Background, history of use, alcohol treatment or drug treatment history, and helpful anecdotal information are all relevant.

Respect and empathy guide all our conversations with prospective clients and their families. From the moment of first contact, Avenues builds a relationship founded on trust. If you or a loved one entrusts Avenues with your wellbeing, you are not a patient. You are our equal partner. Successful substance abuse treatment and sustained recovery happens together.

Evaluation

A candid assessment starts with honest, open communication.

At intake evaluation with Avenues Recovery, you’ll meet with a medical professional and addictions counselor. They will review your medical history, current health, and substance use patterns. Intake evaluation is an interview that helps place you in a substance abuse treatment program best suited to your needs.

People struggling with substance use often feel considerable shame about their addiction. They are tempted to omit details or lie about their level of usage, struggle with disclosing the scope of alcohol or drug abuse, or admitting the real need they feel for getting alcohol or drug treatment . Yet, a false or misleading picture of your habits can impede progress. It may even needlessly prolong drug treatment.

Please help yourself by being completely open and honest from the start. Avenues staff is here for only one reason. We want to give you the best chance of success. Everything you share is to your benefit and held in strictest confidence.

Financial circumstances, insurance details, and payment options for substance abuse treatment at Avenues Recovery are also discussed at this time.

The First 24 Hours at an Avenues Drug Treatment Program

The first day can be overwhelming and scary—yet exciting and full of promise.

During your first 24 hours, our caring staff will help you get settled in and comfortable. You will be welcomed by a licensed therapist and medical professional. We want to really get to know what motivates and drives you. Most of all, we want to ease the fear and anxiety of entering alcohol treatment or drug rehab. Hearing your voice is the most important foundation of Avenues addiction treatment.

If you need detoxification, you will be transported to and from the detox facility. Alcohol treatment specifically and many other forms of substance abuse treatment in general commonly begins with detox. At detox, you will be carefully monitored. Medicine therapy under the supervision of a doctor is available if necessary. While drugs and/or alcohol work their way out of the system, our staff will keep you safe.

If you don’t need detoxification, we will tour the facility together. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have. Clarity is vital for your integration into treatment.

A Typical Day

Every day, you can look forward to three group sessions and a variety of recreational activities.

All residential and PHP clients take part in yoga and meditation sessions. You will enjoy access to our state-of-the-art fitness facilities. Twice a week, you will have private therapy sessions with a skilled addictions specialist. They will guide your substance abuse treatment program with great care and concern.

Clients also meet in three gender-specific groups each week. Group therapy gives you the opportunity to work as a team and build strong relationships. Everyone learns from the experiences and strengths of the group. You will discuss different facets of addiction, the benefits and challenges of drug and alcohol treatment and long-term sobriety. Building a peer support network holds you accountable for your actions going forward. This happens with honest sharing.

Group therapy may also include discussions on a wide range of ideas.
Modalities include art therapy, role playing, music therapy, educational seminars, fitness activities, and 12-step discussions.

Exploration of spirituality is an important element of recovery. Your personal drug treatment plan will include work with your team at Avenues, program literature, and various evidence based therapy modalities. Through holistic practices like meditation, you will have daily opportunities to connect with a higher power.

Dual Diagnosis

Many times, the problem isn’t just addiction. A good drug and alcohol treatment program will include a scope

It is common for a person in active addiction and in need of substance abuse treatment to be struggling with co-occurring conditions like depression or anxiety. Dual diagnoses need integrated care to comprehensively address both conditions.

Sometimes one condition might contribute to or worsen the other. For example, someone might use drugs or alcohol to cope with symptoms of mental illness. On the other hand, substance abuse can exacerbate mental illness. Failing to treat both issues can put the individual at an increased risk of relapse. It is crucial for his or her rehab program to recognize that.

At Avenues Recovery we base our dual diagnosis and drug treatment treatment plans on the individual’s needs and preferences. We may use medication in combination with behavioral therapies.
